HAILSHAM residents are being invited to attend the Annual Town (Electors’) Meeting, taking place on Wednesday 13 May at the Civic Community Hall in Vicarage Lane.
Starting at 7.30pm, the meeting will be chaired by the Town Mayor and Chairman, Cllr Chris Bryant, and offers a key opportunity for local people to engage directly with their Town Council.
The Annual Town Meeting is a cornerstone of local democracy, giving registered electors the chance to raise issues, ask questions and voice their views on matters affecting the parish. Under the provisions of the Local Government Act 1972, attendees are entitled to bring forward any topic of public interest relating to the town.
Before the formal meeting begins, residents are encouraged to arrive early for an informal community session running from 6.30pm to 7.30pm. During this time, a variety of local groups and organisations will be hosting information stands, providing an opportunity to find out more about their work, speak with representatives and discover ways to get involved in local projects and initiatives.
The meeting will also include a review of the Town Council’s work over the past year, highlighting key achievements, ongoing projects and future plans aimed at supporting and improving the local area.
Corporate Services Manager Karen Giddings highlighted the importance of the event: “The Annual Town Meeting is a valuable chance for us to share what has been achieved over the past year and outline our priorities moving forward. Just as importantly, it gives residents a platform to have their say and influence the direction of future projects.”
Town Clerk John Harrison emphasised the open and inclusive nature of the meeting: “This is an opportunity for residents to engage directly with the Council in an open setting. We want to hear from people about the issues that matter to them and to encourage constructive discussion that helps shape the future of the town.”
He added: “Strong community involvement is essential to effective local governance. By attending and taking part, residents can play an active role in ensuring Hailsham continues to grow as a vibrant and inclusive place to live.”
Residents who wish to submit questions in advance can do so by writing to the Town Clerk at: Inglenook, Market Street, Hailsham, BN27 2AE. The deadline for advance submissions is Friday 8 May.
Members of the public are also welcome to attend on the evening and raise questions during the meeting itself.
