POUNDLAND has confirmed it has no plans to close its Hailsham store, following online speculation and reports suggesting the branch is shutting down.
A spokesperson for the national retailer told Hailsham News: “We have no current plans to close our Hailsham store and reports that it is, or has, closed are incorrect.
“If the landlord has put the store on the market, that’s a matter you’ll have to take up with them as we’re not aware of what their intentions may be.”
The clarification comes after claims circulated on social media that the store, located at The Quintins Centre, was due to close.
While Poundland has recently undergone a major ownership change with the Pepco Group selling the business to global advisory firm Gordon Brothers, the Hailsham branch remains open and trading as normal.
The retailer is currently working through a national restructuring programme, backed by £80 million in new funding and led by returning chief executive Barry Williams. Although some changes are expected across the company’s estate of around 800 stores, no list of affected locations has been published, and Hailsham is not among those currently under threat.
Mr Williams said in June: “We have built a turnaround plan with a simplified and more focused Poundland at its heart, as we aim to deliver the amazing value our customers expect.”
Poundland’s new owners described the chain as an “essential business to UK consumers” and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting its long-term future.
Local customers are advised that the Hailsham store remains fully operational, with no plans in place for closure.
