HUNDREDS of Hailsham residents who saw their water supplies restored this evening (Tuesday) have been warned they could face further disruption tomorrow as engineers return to carry out a permanent repair to a burst water main.
Around 700 properties were affected after a major water main burst in the Bayham Road area, leaving customers with either no water or significantly reduced pressure for much of the day.
While a temporary repair has now restored supplies, water company engineers will be back on site on Wednesday morning to complete a permanent fix.
A spokesperson for South East Water said: “Water has returned for all customers in the Hailsham area this evening after a large burst on a water main in the area caused supply issues for around 700 properties.
“Our teams have made a temporary repair this afternoon in order to restore supplies to our customers as soon as possible. They will return tomorrow to make a permanent repair, which may see customers lose supply for a short time in the morning.
“We’re sorry to any customers who have been affected by loss of pressure or water supply today.”
The burst comes as demand for water remains exceptionally high during the ongoing hot weather, with water companies across the South East urging customers to use water responsibly.
Residents are being advised to keep an eye on updates from South East Water and to be prepared for a possible short interruption to supplies while engineers complete the final stage of repairs.
