HAILSHAM featured prominently in a week of police activity across Wealden, with arrests in the town linked to suspected drug driving, assaults, shoplifting and other motoring offences.

Wealden Police said officers made a total of 19 arrests across the district last week, six of which related to driving offences.

Several of the incidents took place in Hailsham.

Police said one driver was arrested in the town on suspicion of being over the drug limit. Two other suspected drug-driving arrests were made in Pevensey and Polegate.

In a separate incident, a driver was arrested in Hailsham after failing to provide a roadside specimen for analysis.

Officers also arrested a motorist who was alleged to have failed to stop following their involvement in a collision. Police said the driver was subsequently stopped and arrested in Hailsham.

Elsewhere in the district, a driver was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving in Polegate.

Hailsham was also involved in a shoplifting investigation during the week.

Police said an individual stole from a shop in Hailsham before officers caught up with them in Chiddingly, where an arrest was made.

Assault investigations accounted for a further five arrests across Wealden, with incidents reported in Hailsham, Crowborough, Uckfield and Stone Cross.

Police said other arrests across the district related to offences including grievous bodily harm, criminal damage and breaches of bail conditions.

Wealden Police is encouraging residents to continue reporting suspicious behaviour and information about offences.

Non-emergency incidents can be reported to Sussex Police online or by calling 101, while anyone witnessing an emergency or a crime in progress should call 999.
