FIREFIGHTERS battled a house fire in Heathfield through the early hours of Sunday morning.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were called to the property in Nettlesworth Lane at 12.04am on Sunday, 28 September, dispatching six fire engines to the scene. Crews used two main jets to bring the blaze under control.
By 12.52am, the response was scaled back to four engines, and by 2.54am, this was further reduced to two as steady progress was made.
At 4.08am firefighters were damping down remaining hotspots, and by 5am all firefighting operations were complete.
Pumps were in attendance (including relief pumps) were from Herstmonceux, Hailsham, Uckfield, Eastbourne, Crowborough, Broad Oak, Seaford and the Command Support Unit.
At the height of the incident six pumps were called to attend.
A reinspection of the property is planned for later this morning to ensure the fire remains fully extinguished. The incident has now been handed over to Sussex Police, who were also in attendance.
Residents were advised to avoid the area while emergency services worked through the night.
No details about the cause of the fire or any injuries have yet been released.
