HAILSHAM Foodbank has been named the winner of a town centre shop window competition held as part of Wealden’s Big One Hundred celebrations.

The result was announced by Hailsham Mayor Councillor Chris Bryant during a special event in the town centre on Sunday, July 26, with Julie Coates receiving the award on behalf of the foodbank.

Businesses had been invited to create colourful and imaginative displays inspired by Ashdown Forest and Poppet, a new character introduced as part of the celebrations.

The Big One Hundred marks the 100th anniversary of A.A. Milne’s Winnie-the-Pooh stories and celebrates Ashdown Forest’s connection to the original Hundred Acre Wood.

The prize was a full-page advert in Hailsham News – the town’s free community newspaper. Also, the Foodbank was given 12 months free membership to the Hailsham Chamber.

Hailsham was one of several Wealden towns taking part in the initiative, which aims to brighten local high streets, support businesses and encourage more people to discover Ashdown Forest.
