RESIDENTS at Deanland Wood Park, a residential park near Hailsham with around 400 homes, have been without landlines or internet since Tuesday, causing disruption and concern.
Many residents have reported difficulty contacting BT, the provider, which has told some that the issue is an internal problem with individual properties rather than a wider fault.
One resident told Hailsham News: “We have had no Internet since last night, so everybody who has been transferred to the new digital phone system won’t have a landline either. We can get a mobile signal, albeit not a good one, but many of the elderly people on Deanlands don’t have mobiles, so it’s quite worrying. The Internet won’t be back on until tomorrow, evidently. The Internet here is very poor anyway, even when it is working!”
A relative of another resident expressed further concern for vulnerable individuals living on the park: “My mother has dementia and relies on the internet, and my father has poor mobility. The only reason I realised this had happened is when I didn’t get their daily morning email to tell me they were ok. I spent seven hours on the phone to BT – the best they could do was schedule an engineer to come out tomorrow between 2-4pm to check if the hub is plugged in, which it is! They continue to insist there is no external fault, even though I offered multiple other numbers in the area also affected.”
Hailsham News has contacted BT for comment.
