HAILSHAM residents will soon be able to travel to Gatwick Airport for just £3, thanks to a new 24-hour bus service launching next month.

Metrobus has announced that its new route 500 will begin operating on Saturday, 9 May 2026, linking Hailsham directly with Eastbourne, Uckfield, East Grinstead and Gatwick Airport.

The standout feature of the new service is its capped fare, with passengers able to make the full journey to the airport for no more than £3.

Running 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and up to every hour, the route has been designed to support shift workers, commuters and travellers heading to and from the airport at all times of day and night.

The service replaces the existing 54 and 261 routes, creating a more direct link across Sussex and improving connectivity for local communities.

Delivered in partnership with East Sussex County Council, West Sussex County Council and London Gatwick, the route aims to improve access to jobs, education and travel opportunities.

Concessionary bus passes will also be accepted on the service.

Nick Hill, Commercial Director at Metrobus, said: “This new route will allow for better access to jobs, education and Gatwick Airport, while strengthening links between communities.”

Jonathan Pollard, Chief Commercial Officer at London Gatwick, added: “This new route supports our commitment to improving sustainable transport while strengthening regional connectivity.”

Passengers will be able to plan journeys ahead of the launch on 9 May.
