A LOWER Dicker-based electric vehicle company is helping Royal Mail expand its zero-emission delivery fleet after supplying and supporting a new generation of compact electric vans.

JLC EV, which operates from its East Sussex headquarters near Hailsham, is behind the UK supply and support of 20 Neomor D01 micro electric vehicles which are being introduced on Royal Mail delivery rounds across the country.

The deal sees the local company working with one of the UK’s best-known organisations as Royal Mail continues to invest in electric vehicles and works towards a 100% zero-emission final-mile fleet by 2035. See video here.

The compact D01 vehicles, manufactured by Derry under the Neomor brand, have been designed particularly for busy urban areas where conventional vans can face difficulties with narrow streets, congestion and limited parking.

Despite their small size, the vehicles can carry up to 290kg and have a 2.5 cubic metre cargo area, providing enough capacity to cover a full postal round.

They can also be charged from a conventional three-pin electrical socket, meaning Royal Mail delivery offices do not require specialist charging infrastructure to operate them.

JLC EV supplies and supports the vehicles from its base at Lower Dicker, providing aftersales assistance, parts and fleet management guidance to customers across the UK.

Nathalie Hayes, Director at JLC EV, said: “This deal with Royal Mail is exactly what JLC EV was built for.

“The D01 is a purpose-built micro van proven across international logistics markets, and it’s now delivering for one of the UK’s most trusted institutions.

“We are proud to help power the next chapter of Royal Mail’s zero-emission last-mile journey.”

Mark Riley, Delivery Design Manager at Royal Mail, said the vehicles would help postal workers operate more efficiently in towns and cities.

He said: “We’re always looking for smarter, greener ways to deliver for our customers.

“These micro electric vehicles are perfectly suited to busy urban routes, helping our posties navigate towns and cities more efficiently while reducing emissions. It’s another important step towards our ambition of reaching Net-Zero by 2040.”

The Royal Mail agreement comes as JLC EV prepares to expand its own vehicle range.

The company currently supplies a portfolio of micro electric vehicles aimed at last-mile delivery, fleet operations and urban transport, including the Benzina Zero range, VECTRIX i-Cargo and Derry Neomor D01 Micro Van.

It is also preparing to introduce larger commercial electric vehicles, including a panel van and 4.25-tonne and 7.5-tonne vans.

Royal Mail says the latest 20 vehicles form part of its wider programme to reduce emissions from deliveries, with the organisation aiming to achieve Net-Zero by 2040.
