A HAILSHAM restaurant brought smiles to motorists stuck in roadworks traffic this evening (Saturday) by handing out more than 200 free samosas.
The team from The Royal Indian, located beside the temporary lights on South Road, went along the queues of cars to offer drivers the freshly made snacks and copies of their new Christmas menu.
The gesture was aimed at lifting the mood of those caught in the congestion caused by ongoing gas works, which have led to long delays across the town this week.
Restaurant owner Viv Samuel said the team simply wanted to spread a little cheer.
He said: “We wanted to give some cheer to the motorists who sit in these roadworks which are causing so many delays.
“It seems like the drivers enjoyed getting a bit of free food to cheer up their wait.”
The random act of kindness was well received, with drivers tooting their horns and thanking the staff as they made their way along the line of stationary cars.
