A POPULAR family-run restaurant in Hailsham has announced it is closing its doors after almost 15 years of serving the local community.
Callender’s Restaurant, located on Hailsham High Street, confirmed the news in an emotional message to customers today (12 June), citing ongoing business pressures which have made it no longer viable to continue trading.
Owner Killian Callender said the decision had been incredibly difficult, particularly after the restaurant was recently recognised as one of the top 10 family neighbourhood restaurants in the South East by OpenTable.
Reflecting on the restaurant’s journey, Killian thanked the thousands of customers who have supported the business since it first opened almost 15 years ago.
He said: “Every single day since then, we have been honoured to serve the people of Hailsham and beyond.
“We have made many friends and had many great times. We have enjoyed cooking and hosting all your birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas parties, Valentines, date nights and get-togethers.”
“We have been privileged to serve as romances blossomed, babies arrived, and children became young adults. We have shared happy times and sad times, and we thank you for all the memories.”
Since opening its doors, Callender’s has built a loyal following and established a reputation as one of the town’s most popular independent restaurants.
In his farewell message, Killian said the closure was a sad day for both the family and staff, but thanked customers for their support over the years.
“From ourselves and all our staff, past and present, we thank every single one of you. But it is time now to say thank you and goodbye.”
