A HAILSHAM-based charity has distributed 140,000 packets of tissues to schools, charities and community groups across Sussex, with thousands more now set to be sent overseas.

Over the past two weeks, Medi Tech Trust has delivered donations to more than 90 schools and charitable organisations across East Sussex and Brighton and Hove, after receiving an unexpected stock-clearance donation from a distributor.

Rather than letting the mountain of tissues sit in storage, the charity quickly launched a major distribution effort to ensure the supplies reached organisations that could make good use of them.

In addition, a further 5,000 packets are due to be sent to Ukraine next week, while additional supplies will later be delivered to the Bethesda Children’s Centre in Sierra Leone in partnership with Hailsham Gospel Mission.

The large-scale operation saw the Medi Tech Trust team working flat out to move stock from its Hailsham warehouse to schools, charities, food banks and community groups across the region.

Stuart Flynn, Warehouse Manager at Medi Tech Trust, said: “It’s been a privilege delivering tissues to so many smiling faces — and having a laugh with people whose football rivals happen to be printed on the packets! Unfortunately, I dipped into a bus lane in Brighton, so that delivery cost me £35.”

Bob Lewis, Honorary CEO of Medi Tech Trust, said the initiative reflected the charity’s ongoing commitment to supporting local communities.

He said: “Supporting our local community is always our top priority. Not only will these donations save schools and community groups money, but we hope they’ve also brought some joy and laughter along the way.

“We are always pleased to receive more opportunities like this to continue serving our community.”

Medi Tech Trust, which is based in Hailsham, regularly supports both local and international charitable causes through the redistribution of donated medical and community supplies.
