FIREFIGHTERS tackled a field fire beside the A271 at Boreham Hill, Boreham Street, this afternoon (Saturday).
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service was called to the incident at around 1pm after reports of a blaze in a field adjacent to the busy road.
At the height of the incident, four fire engines, two 4×4 response vehicles and two fire officers were at the scene. Sussex Police also attended to manage traffic while crews brought the fire under control.
Residents living nearby were advised to keep their windows and doors closed due to smoke drifting across the area, while motorists were urged to avoid the A271 if possible.
Firefighters made steady progress tackling the blaze and, by 2.09pm, the fire had been extinguished. The incident was then scaled down, with all crews leaving the scene by 2.27pm.
The fire has been deemed accidental and no casualties were reported.
